3-Day Battles: Kostner vs Kwan “Bolero”

. 23 Jul 2013 . Sportfolio Editor .

Some say that “Bolero” should have been banned from ice rink speakers after Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean used it in 1984, but it hasn’t been. In 2012/13 two World silver medals were won to the sound of it, so in the 2nd 3-Day Battle we ask you who did it better Carolina Kostner in 2013 or Michelle Kwan in 2005?

I was reluctant to choose another overused music for the second round of the battles, but Carolina’s “Bolero” alone was worth my trip to The Hague, so I wanted to pay tribute to it by stacking it up against the version of a solid and much revered champion like Michelle Kwan. When choosing the videos that illustrate the poll I’m restricted by what’s available on Youtube, I try to choose a good one but it doesn’t mean that the athletic performances should be compared head-to-head, it’s just an example, however in this case, since Michelle’s program changed so much throughout the season I picked Campbell’s version since it’s said to be the one with most input from Christopher Dean and possibly its best interpretation.
